Yacht check-in

What is going to happen once you arrive at a marina? What do you need to check on your rental yacht before you set sail?

While preparing your charter documents, your manager will provide you with all the necessary information about the base location. The transfer from the airport to the marina can be arranged in advance. In this case, marina’s representatives will meet you at the airport, and bring you to the marina office directly.
After the arrival, they will offer you to sign a charter agreement and make the additional payments. Then you will start the check-in process.
So what is check-in, and what should you pay attention to?

Mainly, you will be guided by Check In – Check Out list. Usually, when you are renting the boat, all you need is to follow the paragraphs one by one.

  • Indoor is the first part of the list. This part contains the equipment set inside of the yacht, including: life jackets, sheets, blankets, pillows, technical documentation for the yacht, maps and navigation tools, Chartplotter, bulkhead-mounted barometer and watch, distress alert facilities, etc.
  • Outdoor is the second part of the list. This list consists of the items outside the yacht, i.e.,on the deck or in cockpit lockers. There are a lot of items in this part, and each should be checked thoroughly. It makes sense to start with the sails. First of all, set the sails and examine them closely. There shouldn’t be any damages, especially on the seams.
  • Check the portholes and hull fittings as well. Examine the glass and porthole hinges thoroughly.
  • Usually, the anchor-winch is quite reliable. Still, you should try the way it works, to make sure you understand how it works.
  • Checking the lockers seems to be a routine, however, it is necessary to follow all the points of the list, including all the little things.

We hope you will find this information useful. Pay attention to detail and don’t be afraid to be too meticulous. After all, a thorough check-in is above all a guarantee of your safety on board. Good luck and fair wind!
